Issuance of official titles

Once the student has completed university studies leading to a specific official qualification (Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate), he or she may request the corresponding degree from the competent authority at the university where he or she completed the studies.

Competent body and effects

Official degrees will be issued, in the name of the King, by the Rector of the University of La Laguna, in accordance with the requirements regarding their format, text, and issuance procedure established in current regulations.
Official university degrees will be valid throughout the country and will entitle their holders to enjoy the rights granted in each case by current regulations.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, for university degrees whose completion date is prior to January 1988 and for doctoral degrees whose doctoral thesis was approved prior to August 1989, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities is responsible for issuing them.

Where do I apply for the title?

Titles completed from January 1988 onwards, through the ULL electronic headquarters, in the procedure enabled for this purpose.

Degrees completed before January 1988, through the ULL electronic headquarters, by means of a general request addressed to the Faculty or University School where the studies were taught.

What is the fee for issuing the title?

The administrative fee for issuing degrees is established for each academic year in the Decree of the Government of the Canary Islands establishing and regulating the public prices to be paid for the provision of university academic and administrative services, from the public universities of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, for the corresponding course.
The fees for issuing titles are:

  • Master's and Doctorate: €218.34
  • Advanced Studies Diploma: €182.48
  • Bachelor's degree, Architect, Engineer or Graduate: €146.56
  • Diploma, Technical Architect, Technical Engineer: €71.52

Once the application has been submitted and reviewed online, the payment slip will be generated, if applicable, and made available to the interested party in their electronic file, so they can pay the fees at the appropriate bank.

Exemptions

Persons who fall into any of the following circumstances will be exempt from paying the corresponding administrative fee:

  1. Special category large family. For exemption purposes, the situations that Law 40/2003, of November 18, on the Protection of Large Families (Official State Gazette of November 19, 2003), declares comparable to a large family, are recognized.
  2. Students with a recognized disability level equal to or greater than 33%.
  3. Victims of gender violence.
  4. Victims of terrorism, their spouses and children.

People who fall into any of the following circumstances will receive a 50% discount on the corresponding administrative fee:

  1. Large family of the general category. For the purposes of exemption, the situations that Law 40/2003, of November 18, on the Protection of Large Families (Official State Gazette of November 19, 2003), declares comparable to a large family, are recognized.

What documentation should I present?

Titles completed from January 1988 onwards

In accordance with the provisions of article 28 of the Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations (BOE No. 236, of October 2), and in article 41 of the Regulations of the electronic headquarters of the University of La Laguna , the ULL may consult or collect documents that prove the identity of the interested party, by electronic means unless the interested party objects to this, through the electronic procedure corresponding.

Likewise, and exceptionally, when the relevance of the document in the procedure so requires or there are doubts arising from the quality of the copy, the ULL may request, with justification, the comparison of the copies provided by the interested party or the accreditation of compliance with the requirements, for which the presentation of the original document or information may be required.

However, in the following cases it is mandatory to present the following documentation:

Documentation proving exemptions:

1. Large family and/or recognized disability equal to or greater than 33%.

In cases of exemption due to being in possession of a special or general large family title, or having a recognized disability equal to or greater than 33%, It is not necessary to prove this situation. Accreditation will be carried out directly by the University with the corresponding public administrations, unless the interested parties object to their personal data being consulted directly by the University of La Laguna, through this link.

If interested parties object to their personal data being accessed directly by the University of La Laguna, they must submit the following documentation:

  • Large family title, in force, if applicable.
  • Disability recognition certification issued by the corresponding public body, if applicable.

2. Victims of gender violence or victims of terrorism.

  • Victims of gender violence. They must present one of the following documents:
    1. the conviction for a crime of gender violence,
    2. a protection order,
    3. any other judicial resolution that agrees to a precautionary measure in favor of the victim,
    4. Report from the Public Prosecutor's Office indicating the existence of evidence that the plaintiff is a victim of gender-based violence.
    5. Situations of gender-based violence may also be accredited through a report from social services, specialized services, or shelters for victims of gender-based violence of the competent public administration.
  • Victims of terrorism, their spouses and childrenThey must present the administrative or judicial resolution that recognized their status.

Other documentation:

  • Title of access to the Master's or Doctorate degree, if applicable.
  • Proof of payment of fees, if applicable.

What is the deadline for issuing the official title?

There is no set deadline for issuing the official certificate. For information purposes, it takes approximately one year to issue the corresponding official certificate.

How do I prove that I have obtained the official degree until I receive the original degree?

Once payment has been made, the fee payment will be verified, and a certificate of completion will be generated and available in your electronic file. This receipt, along with the fee payment, will serve as proof of your degree until you obtain the official degree.
Alternatively, you may request the issuance of a provisional supplementary certification. This certification has the same validity as the title for the purposes of exercising the rights inherent to it, and is valid for one year, renewable upon request.
Its issuance is free, and the process must be initiated through the ULL electronic headquarters.
Approximate delivery time: 5 business days.

Where can I pick up the official title once it has been issued?

According to article 6 Order of July 8, 1988 For the application of Royal Decrees 185/1985, of January 23, and 1496/1987, of November 6, regarding the issuance of official university degrees (BOE No. 167 of July 13, 1988), the degree, once issued, must be collected in person by the interested party from the secretary's office of the center where they completed their studies. If it is not possible to do so in person, the interested party may authorize another person, by means of a notarized power of attorney, to collect it on their behalf.
If the interested party resides outside the island of Tenerife, they may request that their official university degree (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate, Bachelor's, Diploma, or Engineering) be sent to the Government Subdelegation, Island Directorate, Embassy, or Consulate, as appropriate, closest to their home, via the electronic office using the procedure specifically enabled.

However, as long as the specific procedure referred to in the previous paragraph has not been implemented, the requested persons may continue to submit a general request through the ULL electronic headquarters, where the following information must be provided:

  • Name and surname of the graduate
  • DNI/NIE
  • Contact phone number (preferably a mobile phone)
  • Email.
  • Government Delegation, Government Subdelegation or Spanish Consulate abroad to which you wish the title to be sent.
