STUDENT REPRESENTATION

Rights and duties

Being a student representative at the University of La Laguna should be a selfless activity whose purpose is to facilitate the students' university life. However, it also has positive aspects for the representative themselves, as their role fosters communication, leadership, management, negotiation, and teamwork, all of which are highly valued in the professional field. Like any responsible activity, it entails specific obligations and rights that are important to understand.

  • Receive accurate and concrete information on issues affecting students.
  • Participate responsibly in the decision-making process and strategic policies.
  • Receive support from faculty and the rest of the university community to balance their lives as students and as student representatives, without compromising their education.

Duties of representatives

The duties of student representatives are set out in the University Student Statute (art. 37):

  • Attend, to the extent possible, all events requiring their presence, especially meetings of the university bodies to which they have been elected.
  • Transmit to the governing bodies the collective opinions and requests of the students they represent.
  • Make good use of the information received by reason of his/her position, respecting the confidentiality of any information revealed to him/her in that capacity.
