Accreditation is the internationally established tool for generating confidence in the correct execution of certain types of activities called Conformity Assessment Activities, which include testing, calibration, inspection, certification, or verification, among others. In general, any activity that aims to assess whether a product, service, system, installation, etc., complies with certain requirements may be subject to accreditation. These requirements may be established by law and therefore have regulatory status, or be specified in standards, specifications, or other voluntary documents.
