Bioorganic Institute

The Bioorganic Institute (Instituto Universitario de Bio-Orgánica Antonio González - IUBO-AG) is a multidisciplinary centre dedicated to researching Bioactive Natural Products. The institute was founded in the 1960s to study secondary metabolites from marine and terrestrial organisms in order to develop unique chemical compounds. Nowadays, the institute is concentrating on: isolating compounds; biosynthesis; cultivating microorganisms; biotechnology and the synthesis of entire pharmacological active substances from natural sources. In addition the following research areas are also currently of interest: biological assessment methods; the isolation and production of toxins; NMR studies of biological systems; insecticides and natural repellents, etc.
