For over twenty years, the Languages Service has dedicated itself to teaching foreign languages, and more than 4000 students pass through our doors each year. The centre is managed by the Fundación General de la Universidad de La Laguna. Its mission is to fulfil the needs of the University community and wider society in terms of understanding and perfecting foreign language skills. The teaching methodology used by the Languages Service places strong emphasis on learning communication skills through participation in the classroom. The Languages Service in a recognised preparatory centre for the following English language exams: Cambridge ESOL, IELTS & Trinity College London; since 2014 it has also been a member of ACLES (Association of Language Centres in Higher Education) & CERCLES, which means its qualifications are recognised throughout Spain and the rest of Europe. The Languages Service is also a preparatory centre for the Institut Göethe German exams, the DELF & DALF French exams in collaboration with the Alianza Francesa, and the CILS & CAPLE Italian exams. Students learning Spanish can also prepare for the DELE Spanish exams with us and access the Instituto Cervantes’s online classroom. Recently, in accordance with the Ordinance of September 21st, 2016 from the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government (Official Regional Gazette 195, from 30th September), the qualifications, diplomas or certificates emitted by the Languages Service of the Universidad de La Laguna to accredit linguistic competency levels shall be deemed valid for accrediting the level of linguistic competency in the corresponding language for academic or administrative purposes without the need for any further administrative actions with the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government.
