Exams

Calls

Student performance in subjects will be assessed through continuous assessment across the board. However, a single assessment option is also available.

Duly enrolled students are generally entitled to six sittings to pass a subject, and may take or complete two sittings in an academic year, according to the following frequency:

Subjects taught in the first four-month period (September to January):

  • January
  • July (with two evaluations)*

Subjects taught in the second semester (February to May), as well as annual subjects:

  • May
  • July (with two evaluations)*

The Evaluation and Grading Regulations of the University of La Laguna are the regulations that develop all aspects of the evaluation and can be consulted. here.

The specific periods of each call and the dates to request courts of 5th and subsequent calls are seen in the Academic Calendar of the Degree. Find out more about the legal status of the courts of fifth and subsequent calls by clicking here

To be eligible to apply, it is essential to be properly enrolled in the corresponding course and up to date with tuition fees, where applicable.

*In the July examination session, students are entitled to attend two assessments or examination sessions, held in June and July. Thus, passing the subject in the first examination session (June) will prevent them from reapplying to improve their grade in the second examination session (July). Conversely, failing the subject in the first examination session entitles them to reapply for the second examination session, without exhausting the required period of time.

Progress and permanence

Rules of stay

The legal framework for student progress and retention serves the purpose of enhancing the student's academic performance, taking into account their dedication and performance.

Thus, progress allows a student to plan each course according to their personal circumstances, while continuation requires them to complete a minimum number of credits in their first enrollment in a university degree and graduate within a reasonable timeframe.

Extraordinary calls

Under the single assessment method, students may apply for this session if they have a maximum of three subjects remaining to complete their degree. They must have been enrolled in these subjects in the current academic year. These subjects must have been enrolled in previous academic years, or in the current academic year if they are first-semester subjects. In the case of annual or second-semester subjects, they must have been enrolled in previous academic years. Exceptionally, subjects for the Bachelor's thesis (FDP) and Master's thesis (TFM) will not be subject to the requirement of having been enrolled in previous academic years.

Participating in this call implies using up or exhausting one of the two calls to which one is entitled in an academic year.

Please refer to the regulatory instructions for this call:

Rating system

In accordance with Royal Decree 1125/2003, of September 5, which establishes the European credit system and the qualification system for official university degrees valid throughout the national territory (BOE No. 224, of September 18, 2003), the results obtained by the student in each of the subjects of the study plan will be graded according to the following numerical scale from 0 to 10, with a decimal, to which the corresponding qualitative grade may be added:

  • 0-4.9: Fail (SS)
  • 5.0-6.9: Pass (AP)
  • 7.0-8.9: Remarkable (NT)
  • 9.0-10: Outstanding (SB)

The Matrícula de Honor may be awarded to students who have obtained a grade equal to or higher than 9.0. Their number may not exceed five percent of the students enrolled in a subject in the corresponding academic year, unless the number of students enrolled is less than 20, in which case only one Matrícula de Honor may be awarded.

Credits obtained through credit recognition corresponding to training activities not included in the curriculum will not be graded numerically nor will they be counted toward the academic record average. Likewise, credits recognizable through professional or work experience or those from unofficial university studies (either university-specific or continuing education) will not be graded numerically and, therefore, cannot be used when assessing the student's record.

Review and challenge

In case of disagreement with the grade recorded in the minutes, the students who have attended the review of the provisional qualification may request, within three working days following the deadline for submitting minutes, a challenge before a court established for this purpose.
