The degree was designed to address a current need for improving the professional skills of teachers at the University of La Laguna. Each year, there is a significant demand for teacher training. Therefore, this Expert Program aims to address this need by training and updating teachers in a set of methodologies, techniques, and training resources that make it possible to implement a student-centered teaching approach in the classroom. The student-centered teaching methodology is an approach increasingly used in education. It seeks to engage students in their learning process, as the emphasis is on the learner.

The degree is aimed at all faculty members at the University of La Laguna, although it primarily aims to address the need for teacher training among new contracted faculty. Its design is aligned with the Teaching and Research Staff Training Plan and the University of La Laguna's call for Educational Innovation and Transfer Projects (PITE).
