General information

This degree responds to the current need to develop methodologies and tools for the study and protection of our environment. Society requires professionals capable of addressing environmental issues from a multidisciplinary perspective, combining natural, social, and industrial actions with a commitment to the sustainability of our planet, in response to the legal requirements of various governments and institutions worldwide. Graduates in Environmental Sciences should be versatile professionals prepared to handle a wide range of roles, highlighting knowledge of natural resources likely to be affected, environmental quality management in companies and organizations, and conducting environmental studies on aspects related to ecology and the agricultural, urban, and industrial environments. Within the "Graduate in Environmental Sciences" program, among the 240 required ECTS credits, there is the option to complete 24 ECTS credits in elective subjects, which allows students to achieve the profile of two different specializations: "Evaluation and Management of the Natural Environment" or "Water and Waste Management," if certain requirements are met when choosing the elective. There is also the option to graduate by completing the 24 elective ECTS credits without having to meet the requirements established by each of the specializations.

Students who would be desirable to possess, among other qualities, such as: a concern and curiosity about the environment and its problems; an interest in both science and other environmental disciplines; a capacity for effort and teamwork; and a capacity for reasoning and critical thinking.

Prior training in core subjects for the degree is highly recommended; especially the fundamental principles of chemistry, physics, and mathematics, as well as biology and geology. It is also considered appropriate for new students to have a basic level of English and computer skills.

Professional profiles can be grouped into four broad categories that encompass the different job placement opportunities for these graduates:

  • Environmental assessment, including “Consulting and assessment of environmental impact and natural risks” as a field of job placement
  • Collaboration in the design, development, management, and execution of environmental, urban, industrial, or rural projects, plans, and programs. This profile would include "Environmental Technology" and "Natural Environment Management" as career opportunities.
  • Coordination of environmental management in companies and institutions. This profile would cover the following job placement areas: "Environmental Quality Management Systems in Companies and Organizations. Audits" and "Environmental Management in Public Administration."
  • Planning environmental awareness, education, and information projects, covering the following areas of job placement: "Environmental training, education, information, and communication" and "Research."
