The conservator-restorer is a professional who must have the training, knowledge, skills, experience and powers of understanding to achieve the objective of preserving cultural assets for the future, according to the guidelines set out in his/her professional code of ethics.
Therefore, the teaching of conservation-restoration must be based on the highest ethical standards of the profession, which aims to respect the original character of the cultural asset and its historical, aesthetic and documentary values, as well as its material integrity.
The training of the Conservator/Restorer must have as its ultimate goal the development of highly competent, qualified and trained professionals to thoughtfully carry out extremely complex conservation-restoration interventions, documenting them thoroughly, so that the work and the recorded data contribute not only to preservation, but also to a deeper understanding of the historical and artistic events related to the objects being treated.
