The fundamental objective of the degree is to train general nursing professionals with a comprehensive understanding of all areas related to nursing and the ability to lead project development and efficiently adapt to a rapidly evolving environment. Future graduates will be able to join companies in the healthcare, social services, education, and development cooperation sectors, developing care, teaching, research, and management roles.

The candidate profile for this degree program should be someone with a clear calling for nursing work, with a strong sense of service to others. They should also possess leadership qualities to lead communities and groups that require specific healthcare attention, and be motivated by lifelong learning and research.

Within this profile, it is advisable to possess, among others, the following qualities: interpersonal skills, tact and sensitivity; responsibility, dedication, and personal balance; observation, attention, and listening skills; and manual dexterity.

Although no specific prior knowledge is required, sufficient knowledge of basic sciences is recommended: chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics (statistics). New students are also required to have a basic level of English.

Within the health system, nurses share with other healthcare professionals the functions of planning, organization, management, and evaluation to ensure a health system that is suitable for the development of people's potential in different situations of their daily lives, health promotion, disease prevention, and care for the sick or disabled.

They are professionals capable of providing health care to individuals, families, and communities at all stages of the life cycle and throughout their developmental processes, acquiring broad knowledge of nursing science, health, humanities, and social sciences to respond to the health needs and expectations of individuals, families, groups, and communities.

Currently, the following nursing specialties are offered in Health Sciences: obstetrics and gynecology (midwifery); mental health; medical and surgical care; occupational, family, and community nursing; geriatrics; and pediatrics.
