The Bachelor's Degree in Classical Studies is based on a broad and multidisciplinary view of the ancient Greco-Roman world, delving into the study of Greek and Latin languages and literature, respectively. The objective of this degree is to produce graduates with a thorough understanding and mastery of these languages and literatures; to develop students' analytical and synthetic skills, as well as intuition and logical thinking through study; and to convey to students a vision of classical studies as a fundamental basis for education and culture, enabling them to recognize their influence on contemporary European society.
In short, to offer a comprehensive humanistic education that has potential applications in the various educational and vital areas of culture and society.
It is recommended that new students enrolling in the program possess the following characteristics: a passion for reading and writing; an interest in culture and human thought; a basic knowledge of classical languages; an interest in theoretical knowledge of the language, literature, and culture of classical or Romance languages; an aptitude for critical analysis and reflection; a passion for and ability to communicate; an interest in philological techniques and the ability to apply them. It is also considered essential for new students to have a basic level of English.
Graduates in Classical Studies have career opportunities related to teaching and research. New technologies and the online availability of editions and commentaries on Greek and Roman works ensure the future of these studies.
