The Bachelor's Degree in Applied Francophone Studies is an innovative program, unique in the Spanish university system, but with similar models in other neighboring countries. It is a program that not only seeks to be fully in tune with the socio-academic reality of our time, but will also help students better understand and strengthen the historical, sociocultural, political, and economic ties with Francophone countries, especially those closest to the Canary Islands. The goal is to prepare students for a broad and versatile professional profile, in line with the demands of today's society and labor market.
The fundamental objective of this new degree is to provide students with a range of competencies, skills, and abilities related to the French language and its cultural expressions, as well as other fields of the humanities and social sciences.
To this end, the curriculum for this new degree includes, in addition to a solid foundation in French language and culture, subjects such as modern Arabic, a third European language (English, German, or Greek), economics and foreign trade, international relations, development cooperation, and more.
Students who wish to direct their professional careers toward teaching the French language or pursuing other areas of work that our society demands, such as international relations (commercial, cultural, diplomatic, humanitarian, etc.), cultural and publishing management, linguistic-cultural and documentary consulting and management in various fields (media, tourism, public administration, archives and libraries, etc.), as well as language mediation and translation.
In any case, it is recommended that you have an interest in the philological study of the French language and literary tradition; a passion for reading and writing French; a good memory; adequate communication skills; an interest in culture and human thought; and organization and perseverance in your studies.
Recommended subjects to take in high school: French and subjects specific to the Humanities branch
Linguistic and cultural planning and consulting; linguistic and intercultural mediation; translation and interpreting; consulting and management in publishing, culture, linguistic and cultural matters, documentation, archives, and libraries, in the tourism sector, and in international relations (diplomacy, foreign policy, economic and trade relations); teaching of the French language and culture; development cooperation, etc.
