General information

This degree provides professionals with extensive training to work in multiple fields related to territorial organization and planning, addressing issues such as the analysis of the physical, economic, and social environment. It provides systemic and cross-disciplinary training, with interdisciplinary connections, adaptable to different professional fields related to environmental, social, and economic issues.

Students from any post-secondary education program or modality, with an interest in geography and direct observation of the territory, and the analysis of social and environmental problems. They must demonstrate motivation and concern for environmental issues, landscape transformation, and socioeconomic imbalances resulting from the global and historical management of territories and their resources.

The graduate degree in Geography and Spatial Planning provides the necessary knowledge to find work in the following fields:

  • Knowledge society. The creation of editorial content aimed at training and/or disseminating geographic knowledge, as well as undergraduate foundations to facilitate subsequent preparation as a teacher and/or researcher.
  • Territorial and urban planning. Developing content specific to territorial and urban planning processes based on the inventory, diagnosis, and proposals on geodemographic, socioeconomic, transportation-mobility, heritage, landscape, sustainability, and global change aspects.
  • Territorial development. Content development, as well as acting as an agent involved in strategic planning, local development, agricultural and rural development, cultural heritage enhancement, sustainable tourism product design, logistics, transportation, and mobility.
  • Environment. Developing content on sustainable development and global change, planning protected areas, coordinating strategic environmental assessment and environmental impact assessment processes, planning and managing natural and human-caused risks, and acting as an environmental and/or forestry agent.
  • Geographic Information Technologies. Creation, use, and exploitation of geographic information sources through geographic information systems, remote sensing, and global positioning systems, as a basis for territorial analysis and action.
