The Higher School of Engineering and Technology (ESIT) currently has the collaboration of a group of companies and institutions whose profile fits the needs of the degree and that cover the demand for registration for curricular external internships. These collaborating entities have formalized agreements with the ULL (Educational Cooperation Agreements), as required by current regulations. You can consult here the collaborating entities with which we have worked in the different courses since the implementation of the External Internships subject (history) for Industrial Engineering studies. At the end of this page you can also consult the internship offer only for the Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The contact person for any matter related to External Internships is the one who occupies the Subdirectorate of Institutional Relations and the Coordination of External Internships of the Industrial Engineering studies. relindus@ull.es, positions currently held by Ms. María Hernández Molina.
External internships in companies and institutions are an essential training complement for future graduates to have direct knowledge of the practice of their profession and face the world of work. It is a subject located in the last year of the study plan so that students can be well trained and can fully develop their profession. In this sense, the degree establishes minimum requirements that students must meet in order to enroll and take the subject. The student must have passed a total of 150 ECTS credits, distributed as follows:
- The 60 ECTS credits of the Basic Training module (first full course)
- The 60 ECTS credits of the Common Module for the Industrial Branch (second full year)
- 30 ECTS credits from the Specific Technology module: Mechanics (which can be covered with third and fourth year subjects)
In any case, and for the reasons mentioned above, it is recommended to take the subject with the highest number of credits passed.
The External Internship subject has a load of 12 ECTS credits and must be taken by students in order to obtain the degree, according to Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, with the aim of providing each student with the following skills and abilities to improve the quality of their training and promote their insertion into the workforce:
- Knowledge of the organization of professional work in studies, offices, companies, public bodies and industries.
- Knowledge of professional practice in studios, offices, companies, public bodies and industries.
- Knowledge of how an industry works.
- Ability to plan actions and develop projects.
- Ability to assume responsibility for supervising a work group, assigning tasks and resources (leadership and teamwork).
- Communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills (human resource management).
- Motivation for updating, innovation and research.
- Awareness about the sustainable exploitation of resources.
The External Internships will be governed by the "Regulations for the management of external internships for students at the University of La Laguna", the link to which is available at the end of this page. In addition, the center relies on the work of the External Internships Committee for Industrial Engineering studies, around which all the information is centralized. organisation, management, evaluation and monitoring of the practices of these studies, as can be seen in detail in the section “Organization of External Practices”. This committee has tools for monitoring the practices that allow it to assess the proper functioning of the subject and the degree of satisfaction of the interest groups involved (SASPE Analysis and Monitoring System and Student Satisfaction Surveys for External Practices). These tools are an excellent complement to those generally established by the ULL as an institution.
The planning, development, evaluation and improvement of the External Practices subject is currently established in a specific sub-procedure of the Internal Quality Assurance System of the Degree (SAIC) – previously called the Internal Quality Assurance System, SGIC – which can be consulted through the following link.
The organization, management, evaluation and monitoring of external internships in Industrial Engineering studies are channeled through the External Practices Committee (CPE). The following members of this commission are:
- General Coordinator of External Practices for Industrial Engineering Studies. This figure is the responsibility of the Subdirectorate of Institutional Relations of the Industrial Engineering studies of the ESIT (relindus@ull.es), currently occupied by Mr. Vicente José Romero Ternero. The General Coordinator's main tasks are the search, selection and contact with the appropriate companies and institutions to establish specific collaboration agreements. Likewise, it must agree with the collaborating entity the number of students to be accommodated (places), the temporality (dates and times) and the activities to be carried out by the students (training project). It is also responsible for requesting the necessary data from the company and the person who will carry out the external tutoring, with a view to preparing the Annex to the Educational Cooperation Agreement for each student and its subsequent signature. This position manages the offer of the three Industrial Engineering degrees and is the reference person for companies.
- Coordinator of External Internship Subject. The Coordinator of the External Internship subject receives the offer that has been managed from the General Coordination for the degree. From this subject coordination, the assignment of the internship offer is managed by applying the criteria established in the Teaching Guide, so that each student is assigned to a company and a professor who will provide academic tutoring. The Subject Coordinator of the degree, if necessary, can support the General Coordinator in the search for companies and in the management of the offer.
- Coordinator of External Internships for the Degree in Mechanical Engineering: Mr. Vicente José Romero Ternero (vromero@ull.es)
The management of External Practices is supported by a institutional virtual classroom for the course located on the ULL virtual campus. The virtual classroom will be the official means of communication for the development of the course. The internship offer managed and agreed with the companies will be published there. For the monitoring of the internships, there is also a tool developed by the FGULL: External Internship Analysis and Monitoring System (SASPE).
Planning for internship positions begins once the second semester (June-July) has finished, by sending an initial proposal to potential collaborating entities, which will finally be confirmed in the weeks prior to the beginning of the academic year (September). In any case, management of the internship offer is dynamic and does not close at a specific time, and new positions may be added throughout the development of the course.
Internships are organised in shifts. In the case of the Degree in Mechanical Engineering, there are four shifts – two in each four-month period – as it is an annual subject. The period of stay in the company is 150 hours, which is usually 5 or 6 weeks of internship (according to the schedule agreed with the company).
For the management of extracurricular practices, the contact person is the General Coordinator of Industrial Engineering studies (relindus@ull.es). In order to access extracurricular internships, the student must have passed the curricular internships.
The list of agreements signed between the University of La Laguna and various companies, institutions or public administrations for the completion of external internships by undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of La Laguna can be consulted at the following link: link.
Information on the places offered in the current academic year will be managed through the virtual classroom of the subject "External Internships". This information will be published in a timely manner before each assignment process through said classroom as an official communication channel, so that it will be available to students enrolled in the subject.
