General information

The degree in Pedagogy qualifies you to:
1. Understand and contextualize current educational and training systems in the international context, especially in the countries and initiatives of the European Union.
2. Learn the fundamentals of educational research to analyze its realities, selecting and designing appropriate techniques to collect information, reflect on the results, identify needs, and prepare diagnostic reports.
3. Work as an education expert to develop, direct, implement, and evaluate training projects and plans in formal and non-formal educational contexts.
4. Perform management, advisory, inspection, and direction of centers and services, as well as quality assessment of centers, programs, and teaching staff in the formal education system.
5. Develop guidance work in educational centers: organizational and curricular advice, tutorial action and educational and professional guidance, attention to diversity and specific educational support needs (NEAE), relationship with family and the community.
6. Carry out the design, development of teaching materials, and evaluation of training plans for publishing, online training, teacher and management training, ongoing and continuing education, job training, training of trainers, pedagogical management of museums, environmental education, etc.
7. Be an agent of educational change and work, from a gender perspective, on education for equality between women and men.

Students with a clear vocation for social and educational issues, a critical spirit and interest in social transformation and change, and basic knowledge of statistics, English, as well as digital and online knowledge management skills are essential. It is also important to have strong oral and written communication skills, flexibility to adapt to different situations, creativity and a capacity for innovation, a positive, constructive, assertive, and resilient attitude, a capacity to negotiate and mediate, and act as a leader, with the ability to manage work teams and resources.

The teaching profession does not have a specific law or regulation detailing its general responsibilities; however, it is regulated by numerous regulations that assign certain powers or functions to it when working in specific fields, either specifically naming the "teacher" or indicating the need for "pedagogical" intervention, which the teacher is responsible for:

  • In formal education contexts, performing functions of educational guidance, management, counseling, inspection, direction of centers and services, and evaluation of the quality of centers, programs, and teaching staff in the formal education system.
  • In socio-educational contexts such as juvenile centers with protection and reform measures, care for dependents, vulnerable groups in general, immigration and interculturality, penitentiary centers, inclusive education, education for equality, education for coexistence, family guidance, psychopedagogical offices... both in public institutions (town halls, island councils, etc.) and in foundations and NGOs.
  • In the design and development of teaching materials and in the evaluation of training plans in the following areas: publishing, online training, teacher and management training, ongoing and continuing education, job training, teacher training, museum management, environmental education, health education, etc.
