Completing internships in companies, organisations and institutions is mandatory for official degree programmes taught at the University of La Laguna and provides students with real-life situations, complementing the training received with the reality of the working world.
They constitute an activity of a formative nature, carried out by university students and supervised by universities, the objective of which is to allow students to apply and complement the knowledge acquired in their academic training, promoting the acquisition of skills that prepare them for the exercise of professional activities, facilitating their employability and fostering their entrepreneurial capacity.
Academic internships may be carried out in collaborating entities/companies, such as companies, institutions, public/private entities, etc.
The external internships in the Degree in Marine Technologies are carried out in two subjects:
24 ECTS credits, mandatory internships on merchant vessels, necessary for compliance with the specific objectives of the IMO STCW Convention.
12 ECTS credits, optional internships, to be chosen: a) among merchant vessels necessary for the fulfilment of the specific objectives of the IMO STCW Convention; b) in real or simulated energy installations, as permitted by the aforementioned STCW Code (25% of professional internships may be in simulated installations).
The content of these is: on-board practices (STCW) in: internal combustion engines, steam engines and installations, maintenance and repairs, mechanical technology and manufacturing processes, auxiliary systems, maritime safety, firefighting and survival at sea, operation and inspection of special cargo ship installations.
Agreements
For the realization of the external part of the internship, the University of La Laguna, through the External Internships Office, has signed agreements with different companies in the maritime port sector.
External internship subjects
The subjects that have training content for external internships are: Mandatory professional internships in maritime energy installations (24.0 ECTS), Optional professional internships in maritime energy installations (6.0 ECTS) and Optional professional internships in simulated energy installations (6.0 ECTS).
