Considering the characteristics and objectives of these studies, successful students must demonstrate a flair for public relations, language skills, respect for the conservation of cultural and natural heritage, social and professional communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to put acquired theoretical knowledge into practice.
Graduation profile
When students complete the Tourism Degree, they must possess a series of skills, among which the following stand out:
- Understanding the principles of tourism: its spatial, social, cultural, political, labor and economic dimensions
- Understanding the dynamic and evolving nature of tourism and the new leisure society
- Have a strong market focus, tourism agents,…
- Direct and manage different types of tourism and leisure entities
- Manage social, work and business communication techniques
- Understand the legal framework that regulates tourism activities
- Communicate in other languages, at least English, and be able to work in diverse sociocultural environments.
- Use and analyze information and communications technologies in different areas of the tourism sector
- Understand the functioning of destinations, tourism structures and their business sectors worldwide
- Know the objectives, strategy, and private and/or public planning instruments.
Career opportunities
Once these skills are acquired, students can continue their training toward postgraduate studies, specialization, or doctorate degrees, or opt for the labor market. The diversity of tourism requires a wide range of tourism professions, all of which have professional profiles, for its development.
The most common areas or fields of work in the tourism sector for tourism graduates are: accommodation, catering, intermediation, transportation and logistics, destination planning and public management, tourism products and activities, and training, research, and consulting.
