The University

Institutional and Business Chairs

The Institutional and Business Chairs are an ideal instrument for providing stable collaboration between the ULL and the companies and institutions in our region, with a view to achieving objectives of common interest:

  • They allow for the development of joint projects and programs with public entities, companies, and any organization with its own legal personality, whether public or private.
  • Its main purpose is to develop training, research, dissemination, and knowledge transfer activities that may have a direct and/or indirect impact on society.
  • Each Chair may have one or, at most, two main sponsoring entities.

The University of La Laguna, through the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and University Outreach, intends to continue promoting the creation of Institutional and Business Chairs, as well as definitively consolidate this new structure of activities to deepen its connection with the society of which we are a part.

More information

The Canary Islands Chair of Agrotourism and Wine Tourism is an institutional chair of the University of La Laguna and the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Institute of Agrifood Quality. It promotes research and knowledge transfer in the fields of agrotourism and wine tourism. Its main objective is to raise awareness and contribute to the responsible, sustainable, and accessible development of tourism in direct contact with agricultural activities.

To achieve this, the Chair will generate and disseminate knowledge and experience acquired in agrotourism and wine tourism with companies in the primary sector: ensuring the responsible development of the sector, advising companies and public administrations, and offering specialized training.

The Chair's mission is to address projects and issues related to agrotourism and wine tourism, always understood in a responsible and accessible manner.

Therefore, the Chair will develop the following lines of activity:

– Structure and research
– Training and consulting
– Awareness raising and opinion creation

In addition, a parallel task of identifying university and external resources that can also contribute to the established objectives is proposed, taking into account the results and orientations of the "Grow Together" projects of the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Cultural Classroom of Wine and Gastronomic Tourism of the University of La Laguna.

The University of La Laguna – CajaCanarias – Ashotel Tourism Chair is a project promoted by the three entities to establish a structured tourism research group within the academic institution, directly linked to the business world. The chair's researchers are professors from the ULL itself, representing different areas currently working in tourism (Economics, Business, Anthropology, Geography, and, of course, the School of Business Sciences, where Tourism is taught at the ULL). Technicians from the two funding entities will also collaborate.

This chair complements and builds upon the current undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Tourism, as well as the doctorate in Tourism itself, launched by the ULL. Therefore, it has the human resources (researchers, interns, etc.) to participate in and support its activities.

Among its objectives is conducting tourism forecasting studies to analyze future trends and movements of various tour operators, something that is vital today due to the high volatility of operators.

The Chair, funded by Cajacanarias and ASHOTEL, will be dedicated to developing the research group's own activities. It may also obtain external funding through the organization of training activities, publicly or privately funded research projects, and the organization of seminars and publications related to its objectives.

Chair in Telemedicine, Robotics and Telesurgery, Canario Kishoo Foundation - University of La Laguna

More information

The Kishoo Canary Islands Foundation-University of La Laguna Chair in Telemedicine, Robotics, and Telesurgery aims to promote training, research, and dissemination of training in telemedicine, robotics, and telesurgery, as well as the healthcare and surgical training of current and future healthcare professionals in the Canary Islands.

The creation of this chair, the second in Spain in Telemedicine, Robotics, and Telesurgery, is the culmination of the University of La Laguna's recognition of the dedication and work of ULL professors and professionals from the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) in this field. Twelve years ago, the European project Cirumac was launched, based on the creation of the first smart operating room in the Spanish public healthcare system. Thanks to this project, the main hospitals in Macaronesia are now connected. Furthermore, the specialization of healthcare professionals from the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Azores optimizes the performance of surgical teams and compensates for the current shortcomings that limit the modernization of healthcare provision to the resident and tourist populations of these territories.

Currently, the HUC has an integrated operating room that can record and transmit data to the University of La Laguna so that students don't have to enter the operating room and be sterilized, but can still follow the operations being performed there. Furthermore, in the field of robotics, there are simulators for all pathologies, allowing for as many operations as desired without any risk to patients.
