  • The Master's Degree in Applied Analysis in Social Sciences aims to train professionals and researchers to be able to analyze and solve problems of high social interest using rigorous applied analysis techniques.
  • The Master's aims to ensure that the training offered is fully applied, using software (Stata, R, etc.) and using real data and practical cases, from the very beginning.
  • Multidisciplinary training is also one of the objectives pursued by the programme. Thus, knowledge of survey data analysis methods, more typical of sociology and psychology, will be combined with the application of econometric and quantitative methods and public policy evaluation, more commonly used in economics, business, tourism and public health, and with qualitative analysis procedures, more related to anthropology and social work. In addition, methods related to the analysis of social, economic and environmental indicators, the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence will also be introduced, in order to solve relevant social, economic and environmental problems.
  • Furthermore, it aims to cover a training shortage in the Canary Islands in the field of Social Sciences, given the growing demand for qualified professionals with a technical profile by the Canary Islands public administrations and the private business environment. There is a need to train qualified professionals from the social sciences to analyse data, conduct market studies and economic analysis and reports, or carry out policy evaluations and analyses.
  • The recommended qualifications for accessing the Master's are, firstly, degrees in Business Administration and Management, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Accounting and Finance, Economics, Geography and Land Management, Sociology, and Tourism. These degrees are in social sciences and have at least 12 credits in subjects related to quantitative methods (Statistics or similar). In these cases, no additional training will be required.
  • Secondly, there are other degrees in social sciences with less training in statistical methods than the minimum required to complete the Master's, such as degrees in Pedagogy, Journalism, Social Work or Labour Relations, among others. In order for graduates of these degrees to be able to access the Master's, additional training will be required. Although taking the Master's does not require extensive prior experience in applications in social sciences using quantitative and qualitative techniques, basic knowledge of statistical methods and the use and treatment of data is required.
  • The Master's degree can also be accessed from undergraduate studies that have developed skills in numerical and quantitative methods, such as Psychology, Environmental Sciences, Statistics, Computer Engineering or Mathematics. In these cases, additional training will not be required, but the Academic Committee will take into special account the academic record and the motivation letter.
  • If necessary, the training complements (12 credits) will be taken from among the statistics subjects taken in the degrees in Sociology, Economics, Business Administration and Management or Accounting and Finance at the University of La Laguna.
  • Those who apply for admission through degrees other than those mentioned above will be evaluated by the Academic Committee of the Master's Degree based on the subjects taken, professional experience, training in the field of Social and Legal Sciences in statistical methods and data analysis, and the interest and motivation of the graduate to enter into the analysis of methods applied in Social Sciences.
