Master's Degree in Astrophysics

Access, admission and registration

Admission is the set of requirements necessary to pursue university studies. Compliance with these requirements is prior to admission to the courses to be pursued.

Article 16 entitled “Access to official Master's degree courses” of Chapter IV “Official university Master's degree courses” of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, modified in its section 1 by article 9 of Royal Decree 861/2010, of July 2, states the following:

  1. To access official Master's courses, it will be necessary to be in possession of an official Spanish university degree or another one issued by a higher education institution belonging to another member state of the European Higher Education Area that qualifies in that state for access to Master's courses.
  2. Likewise, graduates from educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area may access the programme without the need for their qualifications to be recognised, subject to verification by the University that they certify a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university qualifications and that they entitle them to access postgraduate studies in the country that issued the qualification. Access via this route will not, under any circumstances, imply the recognition of the previous qualification held by the interested party, nor its recognition for any purposes other than to undertake the master's degree courses.

In addition, the University of La Laguna, in compliance with the provisions of Decree 168/2008, of July 22 (Official Gazette of the Canary Islands No. 154, of August 1), establishes that in order to access this master's degree, it will be an essential requirement to prove a B1 level of English. Check the Documents recognized as proof of language skills. In addition, you can consult the following list of subjects that ULL and ULPGC, for the purposes of enrolment in a master's degree at the University of La Laguna, entails the acquisition of a B1 level of English and exemption from subjects as an academic requirement that enables admission to Master's degrees (to view the document, Click here).

Admission is the allocation of places offered by the ULL to study official university courses among those who, fulfilling the access requirements indicated above (Graduate/Bachelor's degree and/or approved foreign qualification and B1 in English), have requested them.

Admission is carried out through the procedure established for this purpose in the ULL Regulations. The student must attach all official documents that prove the profile required for access, his/her academic record and his/her curriculum vitae, through which he/she will be evaluated for admission to the master's degree according to criteria of equality, merit and capacity.

The body responsible for admission that will evaluate the applications will be the Academic Committee of the degree, whose composition is determined in article 30 of the Regulations for Official Master's Degree Courses at the University of La LagunaArticle 31 of the aforementioned regulation states that the proposal for admission of students is one of the functions of the Academic Commission.

The regional regulations established in Decree 168/2008, of July 22, which regulates the authorization procedure for official university courses, establishes that all these courses must include at least 5% of training activities in another language, preferably English. Consequently, it is required as an access requirement to be in possession of, at least, a B1 level of English, since it is that other language that will be used in this Master's degree, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The admission profile for this Master's degree is based on the previous training received for undergraduate or graduate degrees in Physics, or in other Experimental or Technical Sciences (including Computer Science).

In the case of students who are not Graduates or Licentiates in Physics, it will be required that they have completed at least 30 credits in the field of Physics that include the contents and skills of the following core Physics subjects: Basic Physics, Mechanics and Waves, Thermodynamics, Optics, Electromagnetism.

Scale

In the event that demand exceeds 32 places, the selection criteria for the admission of students will be:

  • 8 points: Graduates in Physics.
  • 5 points: Graduates in Experimental or Technical Sciences (with the requirement of including the training in Physics indicated above).
  • 4 points: score of the personal academic record obtained in the Bachelor's Degree, Degree (or equivalent) taken
