The Master's Degree in Marine Biology: Biodiversity and Conservation from the University of La Laguna brings together in its approach the vast experience of more than forty years of teaching and research in this field developed at the ULL. It will have a marked character of practical and applied training. The student will acquire a solid preparation in the knowledge of marine biodiversity, particularly that of the Atlantic-Mediterranean environment, and will also master the tools of know-how in the field of planning, management and conservation, research and teaching related to the environment, biodiversity and marine resources.

  • Provide students who are going to write their doctoral thesis with the skills needed by a research professional, since the master's degree includes subjects aimed at the most innovative, specific and current aspects of marine biology as a multidisciplinary science.
  • Acquire skills to apply and integrate broad and multidisciplinary scientific knowledge on marine biodiversity, conservation and management of the marine environment, ecosystems and resources
  • To provide graduates, through a markedly practical and applied teaching, with the training that enables them to begin research into the nature, structure, function and conservation of biodiversity and marine ecosystems, also equipping them with the necessary tools to facilitate their insertion into the world of work.
This Master's Degree is aimed at students who are interested in specializing in Marine Biology and biodiversity conservation with a view to acquiring knowledge and skills that will also allow them to enter the workforce and also enable them to delve deeper into the fundamental techniques of research, development and innovation in Biodiversity. The Master's Degree is aimed primarily at graduates in Biology, but other graduates can access it (RD 1393/2007, Art. 16), preferably those who cover aspects related to biological topics, such as graduates in Marine Sciences and Environmental Sciences.

  • The knowledge and skills acquired in the master's degree enable students to carry out various technical-professional activities in the field of marine biology, including:
  • Scientist specializing in the field of marine biology: oceanography, organismal biology, ecology and marine conservation.
  • Educator/Teacher specialized in the marine environment: protected areas, whale watching, zoos, museums, etc.
  • Technician specialized in the management and organization of marine biodiversity: government agency technician.
  • Researcher specializing in marine resource production: aquaculture companies/institutions.
  • Biotechnologist: pharmaceutical companies.
  • Marine environmental consultant and manager: environmental monitoring and assessment companies.
  • Sanitary specialist in environmental surveillance: toxicology and marine pathogens
  • Environmental guard: marine reserve guard, fisheries observer, fisheries surveillance, etc.
  • Environmental advisor.
  • Professional skills can be developed both in public administrations with responsibilities in the management and conservation of biodiversity, resources and the marine environment, and in the field of public or private companies that work on related topics. Therefore, graduates of the master's degree will be specialists and will be able to exercise and develop professional skills as senior technicians both in public administration and in private activity related to the field in which they have been trained. They will also be prepared to carry out research work on topics related to marine sciences and within Doctoral Programs, as a complement to their specialization.
