Primer seminario, 17 de enero
The purpose of this presentation is to reflect on the current state of economics as a discipline, focusing on the widespread calls for pluralism, i.e. recognising the range of possible approaches to economics rather than identifying it with only one approach. We will explore the various arguments for and against pluralism, as well as common misunderstandings. In the process, the discussion will also address the challenges posed for economists by the public’s distrust of experts and the emergence of a ‘post- truth’ society. The presentation concludes by exploring what pluralism means for research and for teaching.
