Blast, the Poetic "Neo Noir" Comic by Manu Larcenet
Abstract
The four volumes that make up Blast (2010-2014) by Manu Larcenet are a complex case of poetic comics – an approach to the medium that has recently burst into force – because it is situated at a crossroads between the aesthetics of néo noir and visual poetry with in order to show the identity deconstruction of a bipolar character. The texts and images serve as support and, at the same time, as a climatic counterpoint, to a sordid thriller story, told through analepses and an internal and external journey, in which Polza Mancini, the main character and narrator, will reveal her fragile psychic nature in opposition with the gravitational weight of her body thanks to the power, rhymes and metaphors of drawing.
