The perception that women and men use language differently has been documented as far back as ancient Greece and Rome. However, it wasn’t until the mid-20th century that these differences began to be studied scientifically. The year 1952, when the first issue of Orbis was published entirely dedicated to women’s speech, is often considered the starting point for various studies in the fields of dialectology, ethnography of communication, and sociolinguistics (Calero Fernández, 2007).
