Resumen

In his Décadas Nebrija inserts a quite long digression on the Canary islands. The fragment at issue epitomizes the most prominent features in Nebrija's historical works, namely: bis linguistic and literary peculiarities; his extensive knowledge of Latin and Classical Antiquity, in spite of some opinions to the contrary; his personal touch in ellaborating -and not merely translating- his Spanish sources, whose main concern was to gather data without caring for the interpretation and structuralization. In our fragment, just like in his other historical writings, Nebrija adheres closely to the principles of Renaissance historiography.
