Abbreviated Humanistic Anthologies in Manuscripts of Spanish Libraries
Abstract
In the Spanish libraries there are three late manuscripts: ms. 244 and ms. 246 from Santa Cruz Library of Valladolid and ms. 7-1-16 from the Colombina Library of Sevilla, that transmit an abbreviation of three humanistic anthologies: the Polyanthea of Domenico Nani Mirabelli (Savona, 1503), the Illustrium poetarum flores of Octaviano Mirandula (Estrasburgo, 1538) and the Primera Parte de las Sentencias (Lisboa, 1554) of André Rodrigues of Évora. The manuscript selections are a testimony of a particular and school use, since the collector of the manuscripts of Valladolid is Cristóbal García Guillén de Paz, Chair of Arts of University of Valladolid, and in the manuscript of Seville there are school annotations.
